Information System for Air Pollutants Emissions Inventories on Local Level

چکیده
The paper illustrates the Information System for Air Pollutants Emissions Inventories on Local Level in some Italian provinces. The system features the storage, management, printing and representation on the territory of data regarding air pollutants emissions. After a short description of the methodology for the realization of emissions inventories on local level, the paper discusses the topics of the space-time representation of the emissions, paying particular attention to those aspects that are of fundamental importance for the realization of the information system. Once the informative needs have been outlined, the architecture of the information system is defined; particularly the innovative aspects of the planning of the databases contained in the information system. In this context a particular attention is given to the structure of metadata, meaning those data on data that allow the selection and aggregation of emissions by hierarchic aggregations of activities, fuels and territorial units. Afterwards the needs linked to the necessity to represent the emissions in a cartographic form are debated; particularly, the integration of raster and vectorial graphics and the topics of the temporal cartographic representation. Air quality concerns of unconventional oil and natural gas production.
Increased use of hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") in unconventional oil and natural gas (O & NG) development from coal, sandstone, and shale deposits in the United States (US) has created environmental concerns over water and air quality impacts. In this perspective we focus on how the production of unconventional O & NG affects air quality. We pay particular attention to shale gas as this typ...
متن کاملGEM-PP: a GIS EMissions Pre-Processor to ingest European emission inventory (EMEP/CORINAIR) into photochemical transport models
Air quality simulations and forecasting using photochemical transport models require detailed information of the emissions in the area under investigation. Due to the wide range of space and time scales involved in the physical and chemical processes of air pollution phenomena, a need to perform air quality simulations over larger regions, at finer grid resolutions, using more emissions sources...
متن کاملLocal Arctic air pollution: Sources and impacts
Local emissions of Arctic air pollutants and their impacts on climate, ecosystems and health are poorly understood. Future increases due to Arctic warming or economic drivers may put additional pressures on the fragile Arctic environment already affected by mid-latitude air pollution. Aircraft data were collected, for the first time, downwind of shipping and petroleum extraction facilities in t...
متن کاملAn Update of the Human Toxicity Potential with Special Consideration of Conventional Air Pollutants
We present updated values for the Human Toxicity Potential (HTP) of 349 pollutants. The HTP is a characterization method used to weight emissions, such as those listed in life-cycle inventories and toxic release inventories. HTP is a screening-level risk indicator that accounts for both toxicity and the potential to result in exposure, but that does not account for regional differences or varia...
متن کاملAnalysis of air toxics emission inventory: inhalation toxicity-based ranking.
Air toxics emission inventories play an important role in air quality regulatory activities. Recently, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) staff compiled a comprehensive air toxics emission inventory for 1996. While acquiring data on the mass of emissions is a necessary first step, equally important is developing information on the potential toxicity of the emitted pollutants. To account ...
